3 Bags in 2 Days returns to Laundry Love

3 Bags in 2 days is all about relationships. One opportunity we have to develop relationships is at an event called Laundry Love hosted by the Cobblestone Project (created by Just One).  What Laundry Love does is provide a laid back atomosphere for lower income families to come and get their laundry done for free, while enjoying a hot meal that is provided.

3 Bags in 2 Days is so grateful for the opportunity to come and pass out bags there because it gives us a chance to meet and have community, swap one another's stories, and see what needs they might have that we can help out with. The most impactful part of participating in Laundry Love is how grateful everyone is to receive a bag full of random "stuff." Stuff that we sometimes forget is so precious like socks for instance.

We have had people jump up and down and cry over the fact they received socks because they can't remember how long it has been since they have had a new pair That's crazy huh? The one item we always hope isn't in our stocking during Christmas is the one item that they go bananas over. They are grateful for the simple things that we sometimes take for granted everyday.

Relationships is what 3 Bags in 2 Days is all about and we view the bag as just a tool to use to get to meet them. It's a chance to hear their story and understand them better. We return every month because having a constant place to go to where we know we will be seeing familiar faces and catching up on the latest of what's happening in there lives is so vital in the growth of the relationships we are developing. It's important to us that we don't just hand a bag away and forget about them we genuinely want to get to know them and their hearts.  By returning ervery month it helps aid us in doing so and also, every month we get to meet knew faces and here their stories . It's the best of both worlds.

One of the families that we get to see every month is Kim. She raises 3 kids of her own while housing different friends and sibilings at any given point in time. On average there are usually eight people living in her house at one time.  After her rent is due she makes due with only living off of $53 dollars a month. Her story is one of strength and perseverance. Whenever I first met Kim she was dealing with her husband being in jail while she was pregnant with their third child. Taking in various friends off the street and providing them a place to live, when the only other place for them to go was the streets, just shows how compassionate her heart is for others. Whenever I asked her how she does it all she told me that the Lord provides for her and she prays for strength everyday from him. This is the essence of what 3 Bags in 2 Days is all about, it's the stories.

What 3 Bags in 2 Days does whenever we attend the Laundry Love Project is bring our bags full of basic necessities. Also, one thing we like to do is sometimes we will receive donations of things like tents, blankets, pillows, and so on that don't necessarily fit inside one of our bags so we will take those items to Laundry Love because we know of people there that have specific need for it and to see the look on there face whenever we get to surprise them with it is priceless. They light up every time and the joy they have from receiving something they didn't expect is the true gift for us.  We love to give and the bag is a tool for us to go up to people we wouldn't normally converse with and have conversations we wouldn't normally of had and hear their stories.

Most of the time we have found that above the getting of bag they just want to be heard and as 3 Bags in 2 Days it's our hope that we are giving them that voice and showing them that

1) we see you and 2) we care enough to help...

Take care,

Brittney, Co-Founder of 3 Bags in 2 Days
